Summer is finally here! Flowers are being planted all around the island. Notice the hanging baskets around DeRivera Park. Thank you to organizer, Val Chornyak and all of her volunteers. Special thanks to the Frosty Bar for lending us a three of her employees on basket hanging day, for the lift donated by Mike McCabe and our very own driver Bob Hilt.
Our watering volunteers will be out daily in the Garden Club golf cart. Anyone willing to assist with this project whether it be once a week, or as a substitute, can call Rini Miller 440-476-2047.
Our first Saturday meeting went well. Thank you Susan Hildebrandt for an informative talk on Chiggers and Chipmunks. Our next event will be a plant exchange at the Yacht Club Pavilion June 8. ‘Bring a plant/take a plant’, please have plant species indicated with sun/shade requirements. If you are in need of a container, extras will be on Susan Hildebrandt’s porch, 983 West Shore Blvd.
Next meeting will be at the Yacht Club, June 22 at 4:30. We will be visited by Master Gardener, Cookie Krizmanich with the topic of ‘Fragrance in the Garden’. Learn about the sense of smell in the garden, the reason for fragrance in plants, the timing of scent and what plants to choose.
Our Home/Garden Tour tickets went on sale as of June 1. Call Kathy Schrader for ticket sales and information (440-773-5413) Tour is scheduled for July 14. Breakfast will be served prior to the Tour. Also, you can visit our website for continuing information.
